WS80 by the beach

I have been evaluating a WS80 for for use at our paragliding sites for a month or so now. I have developed a system for intercepting the radio signal from the WS80 for retransmission of the data over the IoT cellular network to our servers. Here are a few thoughts and observations:
The unit came well package and was easy to get up and running. I was disappointed to find plated rather than stainless steel u-bolts, these will need to be replaced with stainless as they will not last very long. My test installation is close to the beach and I noted rest stains developing on the stainless mounting screws and the edges of the stainless mesh below the ultrasonic tranceivers. This was fairly minor and was possibly due to non-stainless tools used to cut the mesh and the use of lower grade stainless screws.
The WS80 ran reliably during the evaluation but was reading significantly more wind than a simarly placed Davis cup anemometer.
Overall I am generally happy with the WS80 apart from the plated u-bolts and the minor corosion issues which may prove to be a problem for long term reliability.

Replacement unit

I had to buy a new WS80 for my weather station as the original being just over two years old, died. The internal power supply failed. Hopefully the new one lasts longer.

Great product with lots of sensors!

We are very satisfied with the WS80 weather sensor. We are using it together with an RTL-SDR (rtl_433) to read out the sensor data to keep our blinds safe by automatically moving up when storm is coming.

Cloud-free data collection!

Setup was super easy. I'm using it with a GW1200. As documented, if the gateway has no preexisting connection to a certain type of sensor, pairing happens automatically when the sensor is powered & reset button pressed.

Next up is to finish building a suitable mount (tower) for this sensor array.
